The Pequod System
We run Pequod Acoustics — a small Italian workshop that hand-builds horn-loaded sound systems. They are not a festival brand. You find them in dedicated listening bars and in places where somebody cared enough to spend the money on sound rather than on lighting.
It makes Secret Mountain a music venue as much as a restaurant, which is not something you can say of many places on the island. Putting a system like this on a hilltop is, we admit, a slightly unreasonable thing to have done. It is also the single decision guests comment on most once they have been sitting with it for an hour.
Music plays every day: hand-curated music through the afternoon and into the sunset.
What It Actually Does to an Evening
The difference a system like this makes is not that it goes louder. It is that it almost never has to.
You can still talk
Horn-loaded designs are extremely efficient, so at conversation volume the system is running far below its limits. The music keeps its weight and detail while you are talking across a table at a normal voice. Most venues have to choose between the two.
It does not wear you out
Listening fatigue comes from distortion and harshness, not from volume itself. A system with this much headroom stays clean, which is why an evening here goes by without anyone reaching the point of wanting it turned off.
It suits the open air
We are open on every side, 150 metres up. Open air is unforgiving — there are no walls to reinforce the low end. Horn-loading is exactly the answer to that problem, which is why the sound holds together out here rather than thinning into the night.
The music is curated, not shuffled
The selection moves with the light — quieter and warmer through the afternoon, opening up as the sun goes, settling again after. It is chosen by hand for the hour it is playing in.

As a live music venue on Koh Phangan the space has the things that are hard to arrange here: a serious system already installed, an open terrace, a 180° view, a full bar and a chef-run kitchen, with space for up to 300 guests.
